The Utah Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Primary Care and Rural Health (PCRH) is proud to announce that Sharlene Cole, RN, BSN, health unit coordinator at Heber Valley Hospital has won an Impact Award. She has served at Heber Valley Hospital for 21 years, where she has cared for people, both patients and her fellow caregivers, with all her heart.
When Heber Valley Hospital had open positions, they saw an opportunity to combine the roles of scheduling, charge nurse, and health unit coordinator. They created a new position that strengthened ties between caregivers and patients. Sharlene stepped into the new role. She has developed it from the ground up, enhancing the standard of patient care and providing leadership and innovation for her team
“Sharlene has dedicated over 21 years to the Heber Valley community and patients at Heber Valley Hospital. She has known, cared for, and loved her people with all her heart and soul,” said Jeni Jones, surgical services manager at Heber Valley Hospital. “She laughs, cries and everything in between with our caregivers, patients and families. Shar is a treasure, and we are so lucky to have her!”
Sharlene has maintained a personal touch in nursing. Her approach is rooted in compassion. She never passes a problem along that she could take ownership of and solve herself. She is recognized by her colleagues as someone who can be relied on. Someone who gets things done and goes above and beyond to deliver the care patients deserve. Even when that involves going beyond her direct responsibilities. Her thoughtful, compassionate, and solution focused mindset inspires those who work with her.
